Orthodontics 101
The field of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics is a specialty of dentistry that is dedicated to the proper alignment of the teeth and jaws in occlusion, or proper “bite”. We as orthodontists have been specially trained and are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of a malocclusion, or “bad bite” where the teeth don’t fit together properly.

General 101
You may have noticed, or a dentist has advised you or your child of this condition. Correction of a malocclusion has many health, esthetic, and psychosocial benefits. Good dental alignment facilitates keeping them clean, thus reducing cavities and gum disease. A bite that fits properly, functions properly, and as anyone knows a machine that is functioning properly works best and lasts longest. Specifically, teeth that fit well in the bone and with each other, distribute the forces from chewing the way it was naturally designed. This harmonious fit of teeth, jaw, and joint (TMJ) position leads to less traumatic forces that may injure or cause pain in any of the parts of the craniofacial complex. When we achieve this natural healthy balance, we also acquire the benefit of improved esthetics. You just look better when your bite is right! Then, when you look good, you feel good– the psychosocial benefits of self-confidence and higher self-esteem! Our goal is to create this all for you, and specifically for you as every case is unique.
